— The Olympic games, like the World Cup or Wimbledon, is one of those recurring sporting events that can unite the British public with an inspiring sense of collective (usually ill-fated) support. Add to that unparalleled success on home soil and you have once-in-a-lifetime levels of euphoria. We were asked to bottle that emotion in the form of a book. But during a period of mass coverage, we were aware that we weren’t alone. So The Games had to have an edge. We repurposed photography and stories from The Times’ coverage, using less familiar images in dynamic layouts to show a different side to the events and the athletes. And we applied the same approach to the cover – using arguably the most iconic image from 2012 with an alluring gold treatment, resulting in an elegant, memorable book that we felt the subject matter more than deserved.
